"Women Should Be More Like Men..."

A friend told me she heard a Christian radio announcer make some rather male - female.jpgunusual statements yesterday... while she watched her grandson to help her daughter. The young man was addressing stay-at-home moms and he told them three things … I found rather odd… and would love to hear what you think…. The speaker announced first, that women feel too much and should try to leave their emotions out of things more… Second, he said that “women think too much” and should think less … Third, this young man said that “women need to be more like men.”

If didn’t know this thoughtful woman well …. and if I hadn’t seen the shock on her face … I would have questioned that she heard the correct words….

The part that bothered me most … is not that she heard this man’s message to young mothers… because this woman’s one of the most respected and balanced humans I know…. No… the part that concerns me most is how many young moms heard and heeded advice ... that runs counterproductive to their brains’ make-up. Work against your brain in these three areas ... and you work against your mental acumen for a lifetime…

I would like to take this young gentleman for lunch and share with him how women’s brains wire in each of the areas he misled listeners… simply to support the freedom for so many fine young mothers to  feel morethink more… and become more confident and courageous in their
brain’s unique wiring for women… There I said it… and you have a great day too Sir!

Amazing -

You should go check out Tom Peters' blog and books (here's one specific entry: http://tompeters.com/entries.php?note=008910.php).

One of his big mantras is that women are set to be the next generation of leaders as the hierarchical organizational structures start to favor collaborative management styles and emotional intelligence.

Let's try that link again:

the last ")" was messing it up!

Thanks for this reference, Ann...you always seem to tap into the most cutting edge resources which inspire us all!

It's in moments like these.. that I realize how valuable ... and how different.. are the talents of both men and women... and I am privileged to work among great leaders in both genders! Guess that's why I am always learning and always surprised by the talents that differ ... and yet come together ... When we hear more views from both genders, we find ourselves wanting to hear more ... especially from other racial groups as well. What do you think?

Ellen - I've been contemplating lately why so many people demand that everything has to be an absolute. People don't seem to like the answer that one thing might be best in one situation and something else might be better in another - and in still another it might be a blend of both!

Why does it have to be men or women?
books or digital?
blog comments on or you're not a blog (go see webmetricsguru)?
and the classic catch all - black or white?

Is there a brain based reason why so many people hate to deal with the gray???? (sounds like this could be a blog entry in the making for both of us!)

What a brilliant question -- an so worth more ideas! I heard John Updyke on NPR this morning say that people in the 'black-white" "good-bad" mindset, tend to follow extremism and funtamentalism to defend their beliefs regardless of how many others get hurt. He was referring to the Canadians just caught trying to blow up parts of Toronto... You raise an amazing question here -- and in a community where people tend to have deep and significant ideas. Let's see what people tell us on this one! Thanks Ann-- you are a wonderful thinker and I am so glad you drop by here ....

Well, if a woman is unfeeling, and unthinking, doesn't that make her pretty much like a man? It seems inconceivable to me that someone would promote a such a concept.

John.... you are so funny... One thing this radio guy left me with is a stronger sense to stay around smart people and to stay reflective... to stay open...That's a lot easier at KMM because of people like you around here ... saying it like it is:-) Thanks for stopping by...
