Where is Serotonin When We Need Well-Being Most?

Brain Based Business inspired several posts to address stressors ... in ways that increase serotonin for well-being…. Have you stored any mental software to reboot your mind in tough times you face?

I'll admit that when too many stessors hit me ... I, too, have to step bacabnormal.jpgk and remind myself that… there are brain based tactics to increase your Serotonin levels … the mind’s natural hormone for well-being …. Yes, it works in spite of stress that rams into a busy day through… a jab from an angry customer … a reminder of too much work to finish... or  another bill from your fast-fee-nipping lawyer.  

Here are a few suggestions to get you started with supplies of serotonin. Store more serotonin in good times and your mind will grow capacity to use it when pressures pounce:

1).  
Identify one dream you’d like to achieve and take the first small step to achieving it today. If you’d like to travel to Europe … save $10.00 from your next paycheck…. Want to remodel your office… then, buy a magazine with sketches to inspire a new look…. Looking for a promotion but have little administration experience… then volunteer in a local charity and ask for a reference that outlines your administrative skills and experience…. Just doing the next step toward achieving your dream will add more serotonin to your journey….

2).
Move or walk to answer this question… “What would redirect my day away from the problem I face… toward a winning solution.” Serotonin … generated by that walk … will help to generate surprising answers. Did you know the brain requires 21% of the oxygen the body takes in? When exercise increases the oxygen level the body absorbs … and it does… your brain also benefits with an increase of serotonin.

3).
Laugh at yourself and laugh out load lots! Laughter increases hormones for well-being. Besides, they say that people who laugh at themselves always have the last laugh!

4.
Do something different from the way you did it yesterday… because change of routines can add serotonin to your brain. Try a few of these serotonin builders: light a vanilla candle…listen to your favorite music…create art…contact an old friend…give away something special…relax, breathe deeply, and be good to you… remember a good time and envision the details…set the table with your best china for a solo lunch… take a friend for a scenic drive…do one thing you enjoy most today.

Simply stated…serotonin comes from being better to you! Convert that cortisol that spikes under stress … and that shuts out solutions… into
serotonin that opens your brain to a better way…. You’ll create new mental synapses … which act like telephone lines for well being and personal prosperity that follows from living… the power of a stress-free mind ….
