In my recent work in Ireland ... I was delighted to see that the most progressive medical professionals look for words that shed the jargon when they spoke of key medical problems and possibilities. They also seek more evidence based results in their halls of learning… and because of this skill they are moving scholars forward in impressive ways.
Both these developments … to get rid of overly complex jargon… and to show evidence of what you know in a concrete outcome… make sense when you think of the large proliferation of knowledge these days. New knowledge... like fresh salmon... needs to be kept fresh if it is to feed people. We need to see more jargon-free prose and motivational evidence if we are to move forward in a knowledge era. Since none of us can know it all, and we cannot afford to pay experts every time a glitch appears, we look for words that makes sense. So what’s the solution?
It pays to use more thoughtful language that shows readers what we mean by relating it to what they already know. Similarly, when we create evidence to show new ideas in ways that others can relate…. We… like the medical professionals in Ireland… begin to make a place for these new ideas in the minds of smart people who come from diverse backgrounds…. Do smart people you know… communicate in ways that others can relate…?
