To problem solve for brain based results is to identify possible
alternatives. Since the brain finds winning solutions faster when it sees several possibilities … why not lay out the problem on the left side of a chart. Then… beside the problem… brainstorm alternative possibilities one the right side of the chart.
Draw a line between the two and invite suggestions from people whose ideas you trust. You’ll be surprised at the winning solutions that can come from mentors you value, or even those most affected by the problem.
It also builds better relationships at work when we look to people’s wisdom as possible alternative solutions. If you were to create such a chart which illustrates the problem you face at work, who might you ask for suggestions to solve it?
Show others the chart as it allows them to draw from their visual and interpersonal intelligences. As ideas are added … you will be surprised at how insights and practical responses … propel other people a long way toward a possible resolution.
If you decide to identify alternatives … do let us know which ones you select….
