Brain Based Leadership ... A Fireside Chat and an Irish Country Garden...

Recently, in a lush Irish country garden at Margaret and Gherhard DSCF0020.JPGDenny’s cozy home in Waterford, Ireland, Dr. Robyn McMaster and I … spent an evening with brilliant leaders.…

Amid laughter ... music... and stories that  helped us know one another more… we discussed exhilarating ideas about brain based life, leadership and learning.  One particular topic that intrigued me was our shared delight …of working with and Fen_edited-1.jpglearning new approaches from progressive people…. It came to me that we often miss this opportunity… because of tensions and daily demands of any fast paced workplace... In that circle we focused on concrete strategies and shared secrets that make them work well….

Our Irish friends moved innovative ideas into winning action plans with ease … partly because ...

they bounced new ideas off people’s experiences … and partly because they shared knowledge from DSCF0005.JPGdifferent fields in a language people understood and enjoyed….

Ideas popped up in our fireside chat … like sparks that crackled into the dark sky … over logs… that Gherhard stoked throughout the entire evening… The result...? We parted the circle as inspired colleagues… motivated to turn a challenge at work into an opportunity for growth together. To ensure DSCF0004.JPGthe sparks continued… the group decided to meet on a regular basis simply to share new ideas for leadership in their fields.

As I looked across the Atlantic ocean from the Denny's patio...it dawned on me that to create a think tank at work… in similar ways that this Irish circle of leaders gathered in a country garden beside a fire…is to inspire and share new ideas that add value and currency at work… In such a circle you will also develop teams to move your business from good ideas into success and profitability. Worth the wine… cheese… and time? Just ask your Irish colleagues….
