I stumbled into an interesting international race between ants at bOING bOING where Mark Frauenfelder starts the post World Cup played by ants with the words …” Now I know why the FIFA World Cup is such a big deal. It turns out that it's played by ants with a ball stolen from a dung beetle. That is exciting!”
Mark’s post shows an urgency in ants – and since they have about 50
days only to get life done… and then they’re gone…that makes sense. Running on six legs, the ant is a racehorse among insects, even while lifting about 20 times its weight. It’s said that a colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the same size brain as a human. Do you believe that?
Ants have two stomachs – one for their own food and one for food to share with other ants, and that alone takes brains.... Imagine having time to share food with others when you’re racing through a 50 day lifetime…. The business world needs more sites like bOING bOING. There’s a lesson for us all in the ants racing there… tie or no tie....

Ellen,
I've always been fascinated by ants for some reason. I believe there's much to be learned from them:
