to get rid of things…? Many people have a tendency to save a bit too many things… but you might be surprised at what Dr. Sanjaya Saxena, Director of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Research Program at the
Hoarding tends to indicate an obsessive-compulsive disorder… which differs from person to person … and responds differently to drugs.
Neuro-imagery has enabled researchers to discover that hoarders tend to have mild atrophy or an unique formation of their frontal lobes… where decision-making lies.
Interestingly… drugs which decreased other obsessive behaviors are less effective in treating hoarding. Dr. Saxena found that effective treatments combine pick-me-ups … such as Ritalin… which also add focus, along with anti-depressant serotonin re-uptake inhibitors.
Hoarding is actually more common that people realize… and in the workplace it can cause problems…. Fortunately it’s treatable, and people who suffer clinical hoarding are helped with a combination of medication and therapy…. What do you think…?
