Today’s Mother’s Day and that makes it a great day for some and
rather sad for others…. That came to me yesterday when my best friend and business associate gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers which will hang in may garden until frost calls them home… It surprised me to get this lovely arrangement and even more to see tears in my friend’s eyes…. “My mother is no longer with me on Mother’s Day she said, so these are for you…”
The flowers are special to me because they were given from a treasured friend…because they stand for love that can exist between a mother and daughter…and because they showed me that on any special day we can give to people we care about….
Because of the malleability of your brain…however...you can rewire for a new cognitive map… just like my best friend…. She bought flowers and then gave them to me in loving memory of her mother….
Today my friend is with her own family celebrating Mother’s day… and I planted beautiful flowers to match the lovely basket she gave me…. My own precious daughter and son-in-law will call me later in the day and it will be fun to chat with the kids I hope to be like when I grow up....
In the meantime … a song sparrow’s singing to me as I post this Mother’s Day blog … with thanks that we can change our cognitive maps … buy flowers for a friend…and let others around us know we care without expectations back…. It’s all part of rewiring our brains to enjoy giving … more than receiving … even on a day like Mother’s Day. My friend’s flower motivated me to pass a “mother’s day” story on to all of you…. and so I did.... Have a Happy Mother's Day!
