Frontier made changes in their set-up system so that my email no
longer works. Because the day was already on overload at the MITA center… I decided to call Frontier and get a technician to help change my settings to match their new changes…? So I set aside my targets and called … only to hear a long series of options … which allowed me to press the next number only after long URLs for other people's problems but nothing to do with mine...had been named ... all for me to try "for my convenience"….
Are you convinced that these long monologues on company phones are really “for your convenience in helping you…” as they say…? Or do you feel that being taped and recorded really is “to better serve you…”
Phone menus may save big companies ... but they waste time and talent for small business owners ... who wait endlesly ... to be connected to too few phones ... which hire too few people ... for too many problems ... being called in…. What do you think could be done … or have you noticed this growing phone problem…?
First… they fill your short term memory with many empty words which prevent you from concentrating on your work while you wait for their slow operators…. That eats time… works against your brain… and costs you business on a busy day….
Second… they create cortisol in your brain… so that you are not taking in or making positive associations between their name and their “happy talk in your ear about who they are and how great is their service… and how they appreciate your patience while you continue to wait for them…”
Has anybody out there looked at what long phone menus are doing to the human networks and human brains that will eventually move a business forward or backward…? What do you think…?
