Seems that the marketplace at times is masking as undercover networks.... While it’s true ... we need to be kept aware, and while I’m grateful for the media’s courage to speak up to corruption… it’s also refreshing to catch the odd words of wisdom… calm…or caring, printed in the moving stories we've read lately ... of business leaders help to rebuild after Katrina... What if we created an even finer balance of news ... by what I’ll call “romancing the joy of words."
It would mean the business news would reserve a bit more space daily to show a few possibilities ... beyond the constant problems reported. Let’s say we think more about words we wield... and consider how words read in the news actually shape how we live ... or determine what we choose to give back.
Have you ever considered an opportunity to simply romance the joy of words? Successful leaders use words to win wonders. Lose a deal and you'll hear words that can create chaos. Words win you well-being or kill mental muscle needed to solve daily problems…. What do you say…?
The human brain is wired to act out what we speak.... Did you know, the brain grows dendrite cell connections based on spoken words? Speak for possibility... and watch new ideas pop up to overcome adversity. Words elicit opportunities because they open new entry places in the mind…for mental muscle to rebuild eroded parts of our lives.
In contrast, words that evoke negativity, blaming or just plain complaining... build you bigger problems …. stuff that eludes solutions. Learning expert Alfred Whitehead called it "Romancing the joy of learning," and I call it “Romancing the joy of words.”
Just as Whitehead used words to build brain cells for positive results … effective business leaders use words that evoke solutions. It starts with accurately defining problems in brief, clear and direct ways.
Let’s say a business partner did you in….Why not turn the tide... and speak words that enlist your past experiences as tools to rebuild broken ties…next time you meet that person. You might say, “Hey, how about lunch and a talk – my treat.”
Add encouragement to your words and you’ll find wisdom spring up from those around you… Sprinkle in a dash of integrity ….for life-changing adventures…. Then share the problem as you see it and suggest an alternative … You'll stand a better chance at restoring wealth you'd had...all by romancing the joy of words that rebuild.

Perhaps the joy of ARTS is needed when words fail to inspire us. Rochester, NY, for example, offers amazing arts festivals, has first museums, a science center along with the Eastman School of Music, the Eastman House exhibits, the world reknown Geoffrey Fagan Dance troupe, Black Friar Theatre along with several others and strong arts programs at several universities and colleges in the area. When words do not inspire, try moving your brain in a new direction through the arts!
