Internet Addiction can be bad for business…. ![]()
The Internet makes millions of business deals daily… but workers who rely too much on computers for personal use at work or those who fall into Online addictions … can end up losing revenue for their firm....
Diane M. Wieland, PhD, RN, CS shows how some workers are letting the computer take over their lives... and the results can slice away at focus ... or quality at work…. An article published in Perspectives in Psychiatric Care put it this way, "The Internet has properties that for some individuals promote addictive behaviors and pseudo-intimate interpersonal relationships." Nurse practitioners in the study soon found themselves faced with issues of "internet addicts" who exhibited an inability to get offline.
Does that describe anybody you know...?
Recognizing computer addiction enables workers to be encouraged to get help before it is too late.... Employers who see the signs can suggest treatments for technological addictions, from specialists such as Dr. Wieland, whose private practice has helped employees get past computer addictions. If you recognize this trait at your workplace… the adult psychiatric-mental health center… in your area would be a good place to start for tips about how to handle it….

My computer crashed yesterday and I think I went through withdrawal! Just joking (kindof!)
On a serious note, I did notice how much I depend on the computer to do work and connect with people. I do use the computer everyday, but I'm learning to take a day off every week.
