Know anybody who trips over words or repeats the same words over and over? ![]()
Science Daily shows the brain’s role in those who stutter…. I was especially interested in the discovery that… "Adults who stutter often have great language skills, meaning they don't have problems with rules of grammar or with the sounds we use to code the words of our language, "Christine Weber-Fox, assistant professor of speech sciences, said. She added that unfortunately… "When they speak, however, their motor output falters, so they pause or trip over words."
Anne Smith, professor of speech science and head of Purdue University , Department of Audiology and Speech Sciences... conducted a series of studies that looked at the brain activity of people who stutter when they are performing language tasks but not speaking.
Smith confirmed that causes and treatments continue to elude scientists....
Apparently stuttering affects 5 percent of people in the at some time in their lives... usually begins in the preschool years... and shows up more in males. Evidence of this disorder "can range from repetition of sounds, prolongation of syllables, elongated pauses between words and speech that occurs in spurts."
Have you noticed that some people stutter when they speak but not when they sing...? Now there is another topic for a blog.... What do you think...?
