Contrary to conventional wisdom…Kotulak said… people do not lose
brain cells… in huge numbers… because of age. So why does it appear otherwise at times? Too many seniors allow their brain functions to stick… slog… and rust out… because of disuse.
Here at the
MITA
International
Brain
Based
Renewal
Center we work with people who burn out before their middle age… and with others who still burn strong well past retirement… The latter tend to exercise their minds in many ways... some do crosswords ...visit friends... play golf... volunteer in libraries and laugh....
When asked, "Is mental exercise important for the brain? Kotulak replied…”People used to ask me that years ago, and I would say we don't have enough data one way or another. I don't say that anymore. I tell them that's what the data look like: Use it or lose it."
How does your brain work against conventional wisdom to retain cells…?
Ellen - I can't remember where, but I read that learning another language or learning to play an instrument has been found useful in "exercising" the brain and potentially slowing down senility. Is that true?
