It’s no secret that business is forcing the halls of higher education to rethink their mission and in some cases to change their directions… Is that as it should be…?
According to Adrian Wooldridge… at Economist.com there are several factors at work… “Mass higher education is forcing universities to become more diverse, more global and much more competitive.”
Business… higher education and economists … often find themselves at odds and more and more academics complain about being…” locked in bad-tempered exchanges with the politicians who fund them.”
What do you say can or should be done to sustain these markets for the mind…?
Woodridge offers several tips:
First: diversify your sources of income.
Second: let a thousand academic flowers bloom, and have all compete for customers.
Is it working?

While change is needed in higher education, I also sense that teaching and learning falters in a "mass production mode." Did Adrian Wooldridge offer any insights on that?
