Looks like choice just beat out control when it comes to business! Ok, where does that land those controlling leaders out there? Know any?
Then here is just the nugget for you to take to work today to share over lunch…
New research supports leaders who offer choices for people to use different approaches to get to the same standards at different times. Do you?
My own work in many countries and among different cultures shows me again and again how people differ radically in how they arrive at quality results.
That research opened my eyes to the benefits of choice over control, as does my own work in MITA... but I’d never seen research to support that mentally…. The key is to make it happen where we work....
Do daily choices describe your workplace?
It's not so surprising ... the fact that people benefit mentally when they are free to choose how they do what they do. Or that they also benefit when they can choose the order in which they do things, and the time they can spend on the tasks. But it's useful to know that research shows that given these choices, people experience much less mental fatigue.
Oh, and organizations benefit too ... cause workers who get to choose make a lot fewer errors in their work. Come to think of it that may be the clincher to hand any control freak you know out there...
What do you think?
