When I think of lifelong learning… I think of William Yeats’ metaphor, "Learning is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire!" ![]()
Peter Senge suggested that every business organization should be considered a learning organization…. Senge would extend Yeats’ "lighting of fire" through a “group of people who are continually enhancing their capabilities to create what they want to create has been deeply influential.”
Sound like your workplace…?
We now know the adult mind is able to learn more than ever and it keeps on learning for those who light fires … We also know that IQ is not fixed… and that leaves us with all we have left to do … to believe we can create what we want and then to act on fires lit with that belief… It’s how the brain work…
What do you think?

My mind is stretched daily as I problem solve on new project pieces both on and off the job.
Fact is that I often sleep on "sticky" problems that I could not find an answer to during the day--only to wake up with a solution in the morning. Goes to show that my brain is alive and working though I am sleeping. This seems to indicate that my brain works while I sleep. Can you tell me more about the research in that area, Ellen?
