If it seems to you that those who work harder get farther, you might be right on…. to a point only though…. Here’s why… Few would deny that those who outshine the pack tend to work hard on a daily basis. It’s myth, however, to think that harder work brings brainier results. Tain't so, and in fact the opposite is often the case. From the brain’s perspective, you may be working against your own head by pushing to work longer and harder -- rather than by tapping into more intelligence…. Have you ever seen that happen? Know anybody who looks much like a rodent on a wheel? ![]()
From the brain’s perspective, for example, rest is as critical to success at work than is longer hours or more effort. In an earlier post, When Dreaming Means Snoring at Work, we discussed how sleep and lack of sleep impacts work and often determines the quality of a person’s results. Sleep affects your mental ability and well-being as well as determines daily progress, especially since the brain completely rewires itself while you snooze.
Mental rewiring is based on the previous day’s activity and depends more on the value of a good sound sleep than on the overdrive of harder working days. In fact some say that less successful people work harder and longer days, while people who put their brains to better use, tend to benefit from consistent sleep habits, and good health.
If it is true that you can rewire your brain to create positive changes in your business, what tip would you offer people who put in longer hours and advocate harder work to improve their situation at work?
