At $45.00 a pop, tickets were limited to 400 with restaurant staff making up an additional 100 people in attendance. This celebration event transformed Rotary’s four way test into an evening for restaurants and the rest of us to find a common language and cultivate new friendships. I was especially struck with the celebration’s mutual benefits… If it brought wonders to area business it also brought our community together for a worthwhile cause…
Maybe we all enjoyed the event even more because the entire $15,000 profit went to help others here and in other parts of the world.
Organization ahead saw to it that people came first. For instance, tickets were limited in number so venders knew exactly how many hungry takers would show up. That figure of 400 up front prevented any embarrassment to restaurants from too little food to serve…
Once the party began ordinary people and city leaders shared yarns with restaurant owners and staff and laughed with each other in ways that business and community rarely serve one another.
Venders often tell you they look forward to The Taste of Pittsford yearly because they get to play show-and-tell and they meet people who later come back to grace their tables. Community members tell you they like to see firsthand what to expect on area menus, and you hear promises being made everywhere to suggest new reservations will come to restaurants they’d discovered during the evening event….
When applied in concrete ways, interpersonal intelligence impacts both business and the wider community. Wherever it finds genuine expression that bring people together for mutual benefits, profit tends to follow. Add to that, leaders like Gaven Hurley who plan and organize well ahead for shared opportunities and you also see the workings of logical mathematical intelligence, which we’ll share in much more detail at this site. ![]()
What would it take to bring a business group you know together to share a fun event with the community they serve? Any ideas for an event that could build good-will and profit for business and your area?
