Just when you thought you'd made some headway through oceans of facts and figures, Ann Michael’s blog
reminds us that currents of the information age are giving way to yet another new tide….. Ready, or not….
Central to Dan Pink's best selling book, A Whole New Mind, which I read with keen interest, is Dan's wake up call to leap in again for another shift...for what he calls a coming move away from the Information Age and toward the Conceptual Age.
It's true, that others such as Richard Oliver, say we're motoring for a Bio-tech age at breakneck speed... while some tell you they're heading back to Safer Shores... Which way for you...?
Were you one of those people who helped proliferate facts and figures in ways that dug in for the good stuff and sorted oodles of information into solutions that stumped the smartest people around you? What do you think of Dan’s idea that we’ve focused too much on the left-brain’s analytical notion of “hard” facts … and that change is coming…
Certainly Ann Michael’s and Dan Pink’s take on the Conceptual Age might well describe the new waterways we are entering … where right-brain thinking steps out more to help out at work.
And I’ll bet you’d enjoy Dan’s new book … let us know...
My question is: Why have we separated the sides of our brain in the first place, when both domains were needed all along… For just the same reason, I’m also concerned about inaccuracies and meta-messages hidden in what we call “hard” and “soft” skills. Hard for who? Soft for who?
Personally, I’m still hanging onto hope that we can jumpstart our brains for what I like to term, smart skills. If we get rid of the right-left side thing and the hard-soft thing altogether we might just simply throw into the mix our fuller range of intelligences, for more diverse dividends. That way the whole job gets done – not just the right or left….not just the hard or soft… I’ll even throw in one or two of my own… and I’ll bet your intelligences would have the collective cup brimming over in no time…
Now that I think of it, likely Ann Michael and Dan Pink would pretty much agree. One thing for sure I’ve been challenged and inspired by both of them…. You?
