Lessons from a Gifted Leader

Ruth Cronkwright a Hunt Reality branch leader in the Rochester, NY area  has impressed many with the notion that success comes in different colors. Ruth Cronkwright.jpg I asked Ruth:
What one hot tip could you offer new realtors who want to increase their sales in today’s market?
Ruth said: Realtors should use telephones more.  Some think of the telephone as a concrete block rather than as an effective communication link. Some realtors neglect to make space in their schedules to fit in telephone conversations with clients before the day gets away on them.
What is the most unconventional strategy you used to land a win-win contract? One thing I enjoy is wisdom – which is at the core of this business, in my opinion. I’ve used my knowledge of photography and through that ability I developed ways to stage a home. I might place a wreath on a door, or hand towels in bathrooms. A runner can improve tables and if there is a problem with furniture designs, I rearrange pieces, so that clients will feel more welcomed in a home that shows well.
Any examples of an unconventional deal? Once clients bought a house completely unseen because of my plan.  I’d sold their home and they wanted to purchase a place on the Erie Canal. After many phone calls to properties on

the Canal, I found one only-- with a long waiting list for it. The owner, an elderly woman, was advised to wait one year after her husband’s death and there were several months left to go. My clients could not wait much longer so I  gave them a detailed description of this home based on what I knew, and on a similar O'Brien home I’d owned. Later, I approached the owner who said her son and daughter were coming for several days and without any go-ahead I went ahead and wrote a purchase offer. Who can turn down a well written deal?  When I delivered my offer, I  asked the owner to review the document with her family. A counter offer was made soon after, and my clients bought the home without stepping inside.
What quality do you value most in your senior realtors? Honesty. In other words I value realtors who speak truth and who follow through and do what they say. They don’t lie about any information, or about negotiating. The truth is important to me in all cases and nothing is worth a lie in my estimation.
Thanks Ruth, your thoughts here reminded me why we needed to read your wisdom about how to increase realty sales. No wonder you are successful!

Using this interview approach can you see how to draw wisdom from your own senior or especially gifted leaders and managers? In brain based business it is known as developing interpersonal intelligence, a topic I'll come back to often... Today we savor Ruth's gems.

Good Morning Ellen,
After thinking about your new agent question I would say interaction within their own community is one of the first steps forward. It is extremely important to make sure there is an awareness that you are in the business to service the client with the highest degree of professionalism.

There is nothing more energized than a community which stirs up to teach and learn from one another -- I agree. We now recognize that some start with a lower "interpersonal intelligence" than others and in energized groups we can use the strengths of some to help overcome limitations in others.

Did you know that a person can actually grow brain cells for interpersonal intelligence in the right setting and with motivation?

Not only is there hope for the grump who kicks over the sand pile:-) but there are rewards for leaders like Ruth Cronkwright who encourage and support growth in groups.

The brain is an amazing organ when we use its currency in this way:-)

awesome,awesome,awesome,awesome

Shane, I like your spirit! Those are my words about Ruth too -- spoken like a pro! Thanks for stopping by...
