Check out the Chicago Sun-Times story
which showcased an Iraqis community of bloggers who have finally found a voice from their computers. In the mix of messages, I was struck by two things. First, Iraqis seemed divided on the war, peace and their country’s future, more on sectarian lines than on events they have observe, describe or share in common….
The other striking discovery in this story is the humanity aspect…. and the sharply different views expressed …opposing views that we rarely see in mainstream coverage.
One male Iraqi blogger wrote: “The blood and sacrifices by the American soldiers and people will never be forgotten,” while a woman blogger responded, ”Not really…I don’t think anyone imagined three years ago that things could be quite this bad today.”
If blogs are the growing global voices of diversity that speaks of valid differences, then hopefully business management is listening to this wider exchange of ideas. Another story, in the same newspaper suggested we in the West may have a long way to go ... apparently a woman was demoted, the paper reported... for speaking out about harassment by a foreman who was fired after being found guilty….
Business leaders could learn a great deal through listening to wider perspectives at work... and blogging could be the first real window for people to share alternative ideas, without recrimination. Iraqis citizens are showing us how it’s done…. and the blogesphere seems to be setting the stage.
