Autism is Teachable

It started out like any other high school basketball game and ended up as national news at WROC TV, ABC News, and other stations. J-Mac.jpg

The Greece Athena basketball student team manager, J-Mac, who’s autistic, achieved a dream of his lifetime --  to help win the Sectional title. Soon after the coach told J-Mac to suit up, he scored 20 points in the last four minutes… this was his first time off the bench during a real game…

"My first shot was an air ball, by a lot. Then I missed a lay up and then as soon as the first shot went in and then the second shot, as soon as that went in I just started to catch fire,"  J-Mac said.

J-Mac may never have played in varsity games before, but because of his dedication to getting water for the team, his humor that kept spirits alive, and his sheer love for the game…  Coach Jim Johnson gave him one chance… Then, within minutes,  when this teen's lightning balls started flying, the coach said, “I just couldn't stop crying…"

J-Mac said that when they lifted him up on their shoulders after the game he felt great…  He’s dedicated this, now world-famous-game to all the graduating seniors at Athena High School … and it’s everybody’s hope Jason too will be part of that group.

     While Autism
presents unique challenges to people like J-Mac, this young leader taught the world how hidden resources in the human brain enable us to overcome any barriers we face… When J-Mac's kinesthetic intelligence kicked in during that final few minutes he was allowed in the game, autism seemed powerless to stop this teenager…

Anything holding you back at work?  Which hidden or unused intelligence could kick in to give you another shot at success…?
